Welcome to My Blogspot

Welcome to my summer journal. Enjoy with me the fun, silly, challenging, triumphing, and awesome days of my road trip to the west coast on a bike. Post comments, pictures (if you can),song lyrics, your own funny stories of the summer, scriptures, or whatever your heart desires.

On May 27th.... I set out to pedal across America with a team of young-adults to raise awareness for the affordable housing cause. I will be leaving from Jacksonville, FL and ending my journey in San Francisco, CA. Cycling is new hobby for me, so I know this task of pedaling almost 4,000 miles this summer will be challenging on the endurance and the quads.

Thank you to everybody who helped me reach this goal. I am so thankful for your love support, and encouragement. I hope you enjoy "Chelsea Across America."

THEY GAVE ME A HAMMER!!!!!!

Last weekend, a good friend Ally Millis and I decided to volunteer at a Habitat site in Greensboro to help build town homes at Abhor Court.

Ally and I were super excited even though we were up till 3 AM the night before with our campus ministry, we still managed to get up at 700 AM with the help of a good cup of coffee. It was both of our first times volunteering at a habitat site even though we have always wanted to go help out. We thought for sure we wouldn't be doing anything to strenuous because we both could barely use a hammer.

After a quick orientation we were handed nails, a hammer, and a helmet. We climbed up a semi-sturdy ladder to what was supposed to be the second floor of one of the town homes. The next thing you know we are both nailing away on wooden boards, which would soon be pushed up as one of the walls for the second floor.

It was such an experience...

First of all... they trusted ME with a hammer! I was so excited to feel so accomplished and useful. I got to be a part of building someone's FUTURE home. And building a home is physically demanding....

Nailing in one nail took like 5 minutes.... blisters were forming on our hands after the first 2 hours... and it was just hot.

On the complete upside of things, by the end of the day all our hard work, nails, and hammering accomplished the building of three walls on the second floor.

If you haven't ever been a part of building at an affordable housing site. I totally recommend it :)
